Overview

I grew up watching people in Suriname hustle on the street, on WhatsApp, on hope. Talented vendors with no delivery infrastructure, no digital payments, no platform that actually works for how we live. In 2021, my mother told me about a dream she had about me. She saw me leading something powerful, something bigger than myself. I didn't fully understand it then. In January 2026, I started building MarketTribe alone from my desk in Paramaribo. No co-founder. No funding. No connections. Just the conviction that if nobody was going to build the commerce infrastructure Suriname needs, I would. I taught myself to build a full tech platform. I went door to door talking to vendors. I got rejected — over and over. Vendors looked at me sideways. People told me it wouldn't work. I kept going. 9 months later: 52+ custom-built features. A live platform. TribeCoins — a cash-to-digital payment system I designed because 70% of Surinamese don't have a credit card. Hubs. Riders. A vendor pipeline of 10,000+ businesses I personally mapped. Selected into LvlUp Labs, top 15 out of 300+ applicants worldwide. I'm not building an app. I'm building the infrastructure my country never had. Every late night, every rejection, every line of code — it's personal. MarketTribe is my mother's dream made real. Based in Paramaribo, building for the Caribbean.

Traction

as reported by the founder

Pre-transaction, proving activation. 12 vendors contacted door-to-door → 4 signed up (33% conversion, zero incentives). 8 customers registered organically. 1 vendor (Nitoppa) signed up via form without outreach — pure organic pull. Nitoppa now referring MarketTribe to vendor WhatsApp communities (network effect starting). Ad test: $74 → 80K views → 2,219 engagements → organic signups. Next: first 10 paid orders within 30 days of funding to validate unit economics. 10K+ vendors mapped, 52+ features built solo. Primary revenue: 8-15% commission per order. Modeled: 63.5% margin, 19:1 LTV:CAC, break-even at 17 orders/day. $0.01 CPE on first ad ($74 → 80K views). LvlUp Labs top 15/300+. The $100K proves unit economics with 100 real orders per day x $1.50 rev x 30 days

What problem are you solving?

In Suriname, 70% of the population has no bank card. Vendors sell through WhatsApp, where there's no tracking, no payments, no delivery. Orders get lost. Cash is king but unverifiable. There is no local marketplace, no delivery network, or digital payment rail. Vendors lose revenue daily. Consumers can't shop locally online. The entire commerce layer is missing and nobody is building it but us. Vendor quote: "I see via WhatsApp every day, without the ability to track my orders" (Kapsalon Rico, approved vendor). 4 of 12 contacted vendors signed up within 1 week — 33% conversion without incentives.

What is your moat?

Three compounding layers: (1) TribeCoins — proprietary cash-to-digital rail. Once vendors accept TribeCoins and customers top up at hubs, both sides have stored value locked in our ecosystem. Switching cost: lose your balance. (2) Vendor data moat — not just mapped, but onboarded with menus, pricing, delivery zones. Each vendor's setup takes 2+ hours. Rebuilding = months. (3) Hub network with exclusive local partnerships — each hub is a physical acquisition channel competitors would need to negotiate individually. Combined: multi-sided network effects where each new vendor attracts customers, each customer justifies more riders, each rider enables more hubs. 10,000+ vendor pipeline nobody else built. Add 52+ custom features, deep local trust, and network effects. Full-stack moat.

What is your market size?

Bottom-up: 15,236 SMBs in Suriname (KKF register). 10,247 mapped by us (Google Places + scraping). Target Y1: 100 active vendors × avg SRD 18,000 GMV/yr × 10% commission = $48,648 SOM. Acquisition: door-to-door + WhatsApp outreach to mapped vendors → 4 live from 12 contacted (33% conversion). Expansion: 15+ Caribbean markets, 20M+ population, same cash-economy problem.

Who are your competitors?

Direct: none. No local marketplace exists in Suriname. Indirect: WhatsApp (no payments, no delivery, no tracking), Instagram (no checkout, no logistics), Amazon/Uber Eats (don't serve Suriname).
