Overview

Lumé grew from founder Emily Roper’s firsthand understanding of how connection can change a life. It began as a visible signal for the sober community, then expanded into a universal system for friendship, dating and belonging. A two-semester UT Austin Engineering partnership produced the initial BLE proof of concept, and Lumé has filed a provisional patent covering its social-signaling system. The company is now advancing industrial design, manufacturing readiness and an Austin pilot.

What problem are you solving?

Young adults want more real-world connection, but existing social tools keep intent trapped behind screens. In public, people have no clear, low-pressure way to show whether they’re open to conversation, friendship or dating. That ambiguity creates hesitation, fear of rejection and missed connections—even in crowded spaces.

What is your moat?

Lumé combines patent-pending social-signaling IP, purpose-built hardware and a shared visual language. Its moat extends beyond the bracelet to a recognizable connection system strengthened by network effects, venue and community partnerships, and proprietary behavioral insights.

What is your market size?

$103B global wearables market (2026), growing to $230B by 2033. Lumé’s use cases extend into events—a $2.5T projected 2035 industry—plus dating, campuses, hospitality and workplaces

Who are your competitors?

Direct: Aphroditte/Coditte and Pear Ring. Substitutes: Bumble, Meetup, Timeleft, SweatPals and event-networking apps. Lumé combines premium wearable design, multi-intent signals and a connected app.
